Which is the best to get 4 flat or best results or good grades or best student etc?

study hard?
study smart?

some people study very hard to score in exam but in the other way, some people just need to study smart and success in the easiest way..how do we know which 1 best suit us?Usually,smart people do not really have to work hard yet their result is far better than the work hard category of people but some people study really very hard yet they can't even make their ends meet.
